In addition to the two classic domestic species—maple and cherry—this assortment also includes two exotic species: African mahogany and African padauk. African Mahogany is strong, yet light, and turns beautifully. The color matures from a salmon tone when freshly cut, into a rich red or brown with age. The grain varies from straight to curly, sometimes producing highly attractive figures. The color of African Padauk ranges from pale pink to a deep reddish brown. It has a coarse, open grain and a nice natural luster, and turns very well. Padauk is heavy, strong, extremely stable and rot resistant.
